So here I am about to start my blog. Writing certainly isn't my forte but I'm sure over time I will get better. I wish I could say the same about math. That subject I think may require some counseling.
So here I am in sunny Florida. After living in CT for 40 years, we decided to make the big move when Alan accepted a job at a power plant in Jacksonville. Weather wise, the adjustment has been pretty easy. I mean, who wouldn't want to trade the snow and cold of winter for more mild conditions?
It all happened really fast. Once he accepted the job, we had 2 weeks to hire movers and get down here. We packed 2 of our cars with a few toys, clothes and bare neccessities for a week or so without furniture and off the girls and I went. Alan stayed behind to supervise the movers.
We arrived in Yulee on April 9, 2010. Alan had 1 day to find us temporary housing and signed a lease at new apartment complex. For temporary housing, it is pretty nice. The square footage is a little bigger than the square footage of upstairs living space of our CT raised ranch house. Our apartment has 3 bedrooms, a balcony and a greatroom w/ kitchen, living and dining area. The bedrooms are a little bit bigger than the ones in our CT house. We have gained a bathroom down here which is making me wonder how I lived in a house for 10 years and only had 1 bathroom?
The girls in the leasing office are supper nice and have a great way of making you feel like friends, not just residents. Maintenacne is great. Got a clogged tub drain? Make a call and it is fixed within a few hours. Got a light out? Same. Need a battery for a smoke detector? Done. Not much to do around here but enjoy the beautiful east view our 3rd floor apartment has!!
There is a lot more to blog about the move but I will save that for another time. We are just a few days away from Christmas which also means 2010 is coming to an end. As much drama and trauma as this year has brought, I have much to be thankful for. I have been blessed with a great husband, beautiful girls and a dream life. Last Christmas I never would have dreamed I'd be sitting here in Florida starting a new life with my family.
We are spending this holiday with my Aunt (my late father's sister) and Uncle in Hudson FL. We are all very excited. I think I was about my daughter Lyndall's age (5) when I last spent a holiday w/ my Aunt. It will be very special for us all.
2011 will be starting off with a big move into a big beautiful new home for our family to grow into. No, we are not adding any more kids!!!! I'll make a new post another time about our new home. It trumps the CT house times 1000.
Whatever your holiday plans are, I wish all of you a wonderful Christmas and blessed New Year.
